The Money Plant That’s Been Flying Under the Radar.

The Chinese Money Plant or Pilea peperomioides has been spread amongst amateur gardeners via cuttings without being well-known to botanists. Which is probably why it is slightly harder to find in many regions. These plants are low maintenance and can be propagated very easily.

This plant is originally from the southwestern Yunnan province of China. Popular lore maintains that a Norwegian missionary, Agnar Espegren, took cuttings home with him in the 1940s, and shared them with friends and family. Those plants were spread throughout Scandinavia, and eventually the world, as people passed cutting between friends.

This plant requires a brightly lit room, with indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. The soil needs to mostly dry out between waterings.
