Ponytail Palm, not actually a palm

Beaucarnea recurvata, commonly known as Ponytail Palm is part of the Asparagaceae family (same as edible asparagus) and native to the deserts in southeastern Mexico. Neither a palm nor a tree, this plant is actually a succulent therefore being very low maintenance.

Succulents are a group of plants that have some parts that are more than normally thickened and fleshy, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. While they do need water to survive, they can endure extended periods of drought.

Care and Maintenance

Keep it in very bright rooms (direct sun if possible), and water only once the soil is fully dry. The swollen trunk stores its water, allowing the plant to survive extended droughts. Do not over water or trunk will rot.
