Interspecies Matchmaker
Is it just us or is the world falling in love with plants? Biophilia is in the air—our innate human attraction to nature and the green living things that make our world come alive—and our community of plant lovers is growing.
We’re here for the thrill of finding the perfect houseplant to bring home to build your indoor jungle. But physical looks and first impressions aside, how do you really know if you and your new significant plant other will make the perfect match?
There are nearly as many variables for developing healthy human-plant relationships as there are for building any other kind of bond. With dating, there’s the initial flurry of worries, “Do they think I’m hot? Do we have chemistry? And dear god, are our signs compatible?” With plants, the anxieties shift toward questions like, “Does my apartment get enough light? Are they pet-friendly? And how on earth will I know when they need to be watered?”
Believe it or not, the most common concerns about plant care boil down to the same underlying fear about romantic love: whether or not we can grow something beautiful together.

If you’re totally new to plant care, we’re here to let you know that it doesn’t matter if you can pronounce a plant’s name in Latin or if you can spot overwatered soil from across the room. The reality is that most of us have killed more houseplants than we care to admit, and there’s no such thing as a green thumb. Just like love, plant care isn’t a magic potion. It’s dialogue.
Thankfully, you don’t need hi-tech algorithms or hours of mindless swiping with plant care. It’s quite the opposite, actually. Tending to houseplants is all about mindful attention, asking vulnerable questions and trusting your instincts along the way. The most important thing is that you’re open minded and not afraid to get your hands a little dirty.

At horti, we think of ourselves as interspecies matchmakers. We connect humans with the plants that are perfect for them. You talk and we listen. We don’t just sell you plants; we help you build confidence in your ability to care for them while learning what different plants need.
Much like failed relationships, your previous experiences with plant care (and the inevitable pitfalls along the way) have probably informed how you view yourself as a plant person and whether you believe in yourself as someone who can nurture green life. We provide you with tools, support and community so you can develop a lifestyle that honors your growth along with your plant’s. Then, our job is finished.

Plants are personal. We share our homes with them and some of us even shower with them. Nothing brings joy like being surrounded by a lush, leafy jungle that you groomed and grew yourself. The trick to maintaining a healthy relationship with your houseplants is about slowing down, paying attention and learning to listen to what your plants need. We help you track your success and, over time, guide you through different levels of plant care, and help to expand your skills by introducing new plants into your home each month with their own distinct needs (and rewards).
The best part about horti is you never have to figure it out alone. We’re here for you every step of the way, and help you stay connected with an entire community of like-minded plant lovers and urban gardeners who love to grow, dream and PLAY.
Your perfect match is ready to grow with you!
